As Lyonnais and basketball fans, the Spurs have a special place in the hearts of grocers, and for a very simple reason: Tony Parker, one of the best NBA point guards!
Based in Texas since their inception, the Spurs were formerly known as the Dallas Chaparrals.
Grocers fondly remember the "great" period of the San Antonio Spurs, with Tim Duncan, T.P. and Manu Ginóbili. During this period, they won 4 NBA championship titles in 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2014.
With great players also come great coaches, and the Spurs have Gregg Popovich, rewarded 3 times as coach of the year, a sort of MVP for coaches! It's thanks to Mr. Popovich (among others) that so many foreign players are joining the NBA today, and he didn't limit himself to American universities when he was scouting. Good for him, when you consider that Slouch was traded in 28th position in 2001.
