George Herman Ruth Jr, known as Babe Ruth, was born in 1895 in Baltimore.
At the age of 7, the little boy, a little turbulent, was sent to a Catholic school, St Mary's School. It is in this school that he discovered and took a passion for baseball.
He spent hours and hours perfecting his skills, learning the different techniques (pitching, hitting...), so much so that one day the school contacted the owner of the Orioles baseball team (Baltimore franchise) to come and see him play.
He was so impressed that he offered him a contract within an hour of meeting him.
When he first arrived at Orioles practice, George was nicknamed "Jack's Newest Babe". That's how George Ruth became Babe Ruth!
After a brilliant start as a pitcher in the American baseball league, he was bought by the famous Boston Red Sox franchise.
There he set his first records, such as 29 homeruns in a single season (1919).
1919 will be his last season at home on the mythical field / baseball stadium of Boston, Fenway Park, it will be sold to the Yankees at the end of the season.
Just arrived at the Yankee Stadium of New York Babe Ruth dominates the game, and outperforms his opponents, breaking record after record (59 homeruns, 177 runs and a .846 batting average!). He became a superstar, not only in the baseball world, but also in the American culture. He is, to this day, considered the greatest baseball player of all time! He is a big reason why you bought a NY cap and why this logo is recognized worldwide!
When he played in New York, he allowed the NY Yankees to dominate the sport, winning 4 World Series!
The new New York Yankees stadium, completed in 1923, was even nicknamed "The HomeThat BabeBuilt", so much did he contribute to make this sport known and to attract people in the stadium!
After his retirement, he was inducted into the Baseball Hall Of Fame.
He died of cancer in 1948, and was buried at Yankee Stadium. More than 100,000 people turned out to pay their last respects. He will remain the greatest MLB player of all time, a genius hitter, who bullied all the baseball players (especially the catchers) who played against him.
