Yankee Stadium

All about the NYC Yankees Stadium

If there is an important stadium in Major League Baseball, it is this one! Located in the heart of the Big Apple, it is the second stadium to visit after Madison Square Garden when you visit New York.

The history of the stadium

The first groundbreaking of what was to become the most famous Ball Park in the world took place in 1921, after the club bought almost 40,400 m2 of land in the West Bronx.
Previously New York Yankees played at the Polo Grounds at West 157th Street and 8th Avenue.
The construction of this first Yankee Stadium took almost 2 years.
It saw great baseball players like Babe Ruth, who was the first to hit a homerun in this stadium: quite a symbol! Indeed, this stadium was nicknamed "The House That Ruth Built".
It has undergone many works to increase its capacity or to renovate parts of it.
There was even a big renovation plan in the 70's, with the demolition of entire stands and the creation of luxury suites and facilities for journalists.
In June 2005, it was decided that the current Yankee Stadium no longer met the standards required for a baseball stadium for such a prestigious team. It was therefore decided to build a brand new stadium, right in front of the old one.
The work lasted 3 years and cost more than 1,500,000,000 dollars (that's a lot of money!). The first baseball game played there was on April 3, 2009, when the Yankees and the Cubs played each other.
It has a capacity of over 50,000 spectators.
In addition to hosting baseball games, it also hosts the New York City FC soccer team since 2015, concerts and special events.
Its address today is:
One East 161st Street
Bronx, New York, NY 10451

See a Yankees game

There's nothing more American than going to a baseball game. But be warned, you can spend hours there! A baseball game can last a very long time, as long as one of the franchises is not victorious, we continue! And it can last more than 4 hours.
In any case, seeing a game, a Yankees one at that, is an experience you won't regret, grocer's word!
Especially since you'll be able to hear and see the famous Bleachers Creatures, those unconditional fans of the franchise.
To reserve your tickets, you can order them online, there are plenty of websites that offer them, or you can go directly to the stadium's ticket office.
If you are in the regular season, then you are almost sure to have tickets, in play-off and world series (World Series) it is much more complicated !
It will cost you between a few dollars and a few hundred dollars depending on the location in the stadium you choose.
The season usually starts in March and ends in November. Since Yankee Stadium is open air, these dates are a good thing!
You can attend several types of games: exhibition, playoffs, or even have the chance to attend practices.
You can buy your tickets to attend a game directly there, or online as an E-ticket on specialized websites. The prices of the tickets depend on the position of your seat, the opponents, or the date of the match. A match during the weekend is more expensive than during the week.
Remember to show up about 20 minutes before the start of the match.

Visit the stadium

Outside of the game and sports season, you can visit the stadium and its museum. You will be able to see the locker rooms, the Monument Park (an outdoor museum that exhibits player plaques, retired jerseys...) you will know everything about the results and the most famous Yankees players!
It will cost you about 25 dollars for the visit.
There is also a "Fan Shop" where you can satisfy your shopping and Memorabilia desires!

Getting to the stadium

Located 2 steps from the Harlem River, in the north of Manhattan, you can get there by car, or by public transportation. Take the Subway line 4 and get off at 161 St - Yankee Stadium (logical).
